i really didn't understand taking tyrus over aldridge at the time. aldridge isn't an allstar, but he's a good scoring 4 who isn't a liability on d. those aren't always easy to come by.

that said, on behalf of the dallas mavericks, my offer of jho for salmons/tyrus is still on the table.

They did screw the pooch, no questions about it. LMA > Tyrus and Roy is 1000 > than both of them. But Roy has his health issues, at the time we had Gordon and Hinrich and Duhon. Problem with that particular draft was it was very light on talent ... Bargnani was a project, LMA had pansy issues, Roy had a long histroy of injuries at Washington, and TT was an even bigger project than Bargs. Who else made the top 5?

Out of curiosity? Why not? I think it's a no brainer. If this team has Hinrich and Roy in the backcourt and TT and Noah upfront, you draft Beasley every time. It was already a really close thing whether we got Rose or Beasley ... With Roy here, Paxson drafts Beasley 10 out of 10 times.

We are under no illusions. Paxson drafted TT as a project. Projects need PT, they need patience and most of all they need a coach and GM who'll give them that. Jsmoove got it, and look at that guy. TT has never had that privilege. Why draft a guy if your not gonna fuckin give him a go? You're wasting my time and money as a fan by drafting him in the 1st place.

I'd have to agree. A pile of dog shit probably has a higher IQ than Tyrus Thomas. But with that said, he is still pretty young. Just think about it, this is Joakim Noah's third year in the NBA after four years in Florida, and he is just now breaking out. Tyrus left LSU after one season, and came into the NBA very raw. Had he stayed all 4 years in college this would be his rookie season...so of course he's still immature, he's only 23!

Not everybody is going to step into the league with the maturity level that Tim Duncan or Derrick Rose had when they first got drafted. These things take time, players take time. I can understand Tyrus' frustration level at this point too. He's been in the league for a few years now, and was a starter for the Bulls before he broke his arm. But now he's the 7th or 8th man off the bench, and is lucky to play over 20 minutes a game. I don't think its right, and I don't think management has done a good job handling this.

To compare Rose to Roy is stupid, two very different players, playing different position in different roles. i wouldn't even put Roy that far above Rose right now if at all.

Noah did 3 years at florida if I am not mistaken but regardless, tyrus is not a basketball player, he is an athlete who happens to play basketball. He will do as many stupid things that hurts the team during the course of a game as he does great plays that helps. He could and has demonstrated the ability to make great plays on D when he is interested, he just isn't interested very often.

I still and will continue to say he has been give ample opportunity to prove he is worth working with and always proves the opposite.

be glad to see him take the same path BG took, the shortest one out of town.

Yeah... Roy is at his ceiling right now. All star every season, the franchise player on his team no question. Averaging a consistent 23-5-5 on 48% shooting over the past two years. Easily in that 2nd tier of stars outside of Kobe/Lebron/Wade/Bosh/etc.

And Rose could get better, but I think his ceiling is where Roy is at right now. You aren't going to see him get to the level of Kobe Bryant/Lebron James.

My bad, it was 3 years (04-07). But I can't say I disagree with you say either. Tyrus' moments of stupidity can outweigh any good he is capable of doing. I just think he's been deserving of that starting spot since he's returned. I think pairing him up with Noah to start games is the right thing to do. They need energy to start games rather than have that spark off the bench. And like you said, Tyrus is an athlete who happens to play basketball...so wouldn't it be beneficial to use his athleticism alongside Rose to start games?

I like Taj Gibson, and I think he along with Noah and Rose are the only pieces worthy to build around. But right now I think Tyrus is the better player. This is just another example of Del Negro's buffoonery in my book.

I for the longest thought Taj wasn't ready to start but it is hard to argue with his production and he has been productive. I have been pleasently surprised with him. Plus he rarely has the moments of pure ignorance TT so often displays. I think Tyrus could have come back and taken the starting spot if he earned it back but like to so many of today's players he seems to think it is owed to him so he sulks about not getting it instead of going out, keeping his head in the game and earning it back.

Again, hard to compare guys who play different positions and in different systems fairly but when comparing one guy with another when they have different amounts of years in the league i think one of the more fair ways to do it is to look at how their numbers compare during the season of the shortest length player. In this case you would compare their second season numbers.

Roy played 74 games, 37 mpg, 19.1ppg, 45% shooting, 34% behind the arc, 75% at the line, 4.7 rpg, 5.8ast, 1.8 to, 1.7 stls, .2 blks
Rose so far has 49 games, just under 37 mpg, 19.9 ppg, 47% shooting, 24% behind the arc, 76% at the line, 3.8 rpg, 5.8 ast, 2.8 to. .7 stls, .3 blks

pretty close and not as much difference between their production as chambers makes it out to be

Again, numbers don't tell the whole story but when making comparisons there are many other factors. Who knows what Roy would be doing in Chicago compared to Portland and vice versa.

I guess it is true that Tryus never be able to play through his mistake like Josh Smith. However They were at different teams. Hawks was terrible team which allows them to play Josh Smith no matter how many mistake he makes. Tyrus was drafted to a playoff team as project. Coaches wont be able to play him as much as Hawk play Josh Smith due to the pressure to make playoff. Not to mention that fans were tired of rebuilding and want glory of Jordan era back.

I think it is still up to player. I think what Lindsey Hunter said is right.

Taj is a better basketball player than Tyrus right now because his IQ is higher... he hustles, is rarely caught out of position, and plays to his limitations... Tyrus still has too many moments of running around like a chicken without a head... he has an enormous amount of untapped potential, but if he took a page out of Taj's book and just did what was asked of him, he'd be playing 30 minutes a night... instead, he tries to do too much, gets caught out of position when he's looking for blocked shots, and shoots too many jumpers when he should be driving every time and either dunking or getting fouled... if he had a good coach the last two years, we might have seen it, but it's pretty much been a waste under Vinny

Tyrus Thomas was back at practice Monday after being suspended for Saturday's game. Bulls head coach Vinny Del Negro wants to move on from the incident, but would not guarantee Thomas would play ahead Chris Richard, who signed a 10-day contract last week.

"It depends on matchups and what we need out there," Del Negro told the Chicago Tribune. "Chris gave us a nice boost (Saturday). He's physical inside. He's a big, strong body. He's pretty familiar with our stuff. He got us some offensive rebounds and we converted on them, which was nice."
