JJ a hot commodity?

Quote:
Alex Kennedy: Teams are calling and offering for J.J. Redick but performances like the one he had tonight make parting ways harder than ever.
If we move him, we better be getting a solid player in return.

No more Mobley for Christie deals please.

With Vince playing as shitty as he has been, I don't think we can move JJ unless something great comes along.

crazy talk, and the closer we get to the trade deadline the more of this you will hear. Hell, they were talking this morning about Boston trading Ray Allen . I doubt there is anyone here that would trade Allen straight up for JJ.

JJ for Ray allen, anyone ever think that could be mentioned as a trade....

with vice playing like he is JJ is not going anywhere...As SVG said last night, "I trust him on both ends of the floor".

Please don't trade him Otis. He's too good a fit for us and he has really been stepping up lately. I hope we extend him b/c I'm pretty sure he could start for us right now.

allow me to play devil's advocate...

can any of you really invision redick's value around the league being any higher than it is right now? He is having BY FAR the best season of his pro career...maybe i'm being pessimistic, but i don't think it's a coincidence he's doing it in his contract year. If the right deal comes along, otis would be a fool not to trade a guy that we're not even sure we're going to get back next season.

i think jj's work ethics alone would say he contract year has little to do with his play this year, I think he has improved his game through hrd work and more playing time in meaningful minutes. I see him getting better as time goes on, he is only 25.

And he makes less than 3 million a year, so you will not get much for that...unless a sign and trade is worked out.

On top of that, if that happened, and Vince is washed up we now lose vince and JJ, I do not want to start from scratch at the SG spot...

we do have a trade exception. I dont know how it works tho. If it can be packaged with a player or it allows us to take back more in salary than goes out might work to get someone.

I kinda like what Otis said about just giving these guys some time.

why do you think jj is an exception to a general rule in the nba...and all pro sports, really? Guys play harder when their guaranteed money is about to run out. I don't fault the players for it, at the end of the day it's a business. Once guys get a nice contract, they feel satisfied and stop pushing...how can you so firmly believe that jj redick is different than 95% of the other guys in the league? He's been playing with a chip on his shoulder, a new contract removes a good portion of that chip.

I take into consideration his history, he is a winner and works hard to improve, you know that you have heard that from everyone connected with the Magic that he is the hardest worker on the team, trying to improve his body and skills. and that has been since day one here. Thats why I think he is different than a hell of a lot of othr guys in the league... it did not just start this year, had that been the case I would agree with you...

The offers we are getting for him are bullshit... I can tell you that right now.

Unless we have an opportunity to land a guy like Rudy Gay, Otis should stand pat.

Agreed. And I do understadn the argument about JJ value being high right now, but again, with VC playing like a bitch right now, JJ's value to us is even greater. So if something major doesn't present itself, keep Redick. He fits, he plays well and he likes it here.

I don't think JJs past numbers were for lack of effort/non-contract year, but that it just took him some time to figure out how not to be raped when he was on defense, and how to be effective in the NBA.

That said, I totally agree that if the right package came along, we shouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. Only Dwight is untradeable. I also think it would have to be for a SG to replace both his and Vince's production.

The guys who are out there that are rumored to be on the block are as follows:

Richard Hamilton
Andre Iguodala
Kevin Martin
Tracy McGrady
Caron Butler

Now obviously guys like Stoudemire and Boozer could be on the market, and we probably would be inclided to trade JJ and just replace him if something like that was out there too.

Would you trade JJ for Iguodala?

I think thats a hard one to pass up. I love JJ! He is playing great bball ever since late last year during the playoffs. That and the fact that VC is sucking ass, makes him (JJ) nearly untradeable IMO... BUT... if you could get AI, you have to consider it. AI is locked down for a few years. He is a solid defender and ball distributor out of the SG position.

a lot of defense is effort...i don't think it's a coincidence his improvement on D came in his contract year.

that true. But learning the tricks of NBA level play takes time for some. Tricks on defense as well as offense. Veteran type moves.

I thought JJ would have trouble getting his shot off at this level and he did initially. He learned and his teammates gradually began to trust him. He works hard on and off the court and is stronger now than when he first got here. He is getting a chance now for meaningful minutes and is making the best of it.

Good for him and the return finally on the Magics investment. Now he does have some worth. And he can get a decent 2nd contract.
