Salary Cap
53,135,000

Things to remember:

  • The MLE (Mid Level Exception) may be used every year if the respective team is over the cap.
  • The LLE (Bi-Annual Exception) may only be used every other year if the respective team is over the cap.
  • The MLE may be split between more then one player for contracts no longer then 5 years.
  • The LLE may be split between more then one player for contracts no longer then 2 years.
  • Teams under the cap are not allowed to use the MLE or Bi-Annual exceptions
  • For teams under the cap, the MLE & Bi-Annual exceptions are combined (about 7 million - MLE = 5, LLE = 2) and added to the teams overall salary. Example: Team A has a payroll of 40 million, so, they are under the cap. Thus, their real cap figure is 47 million with the added MLE and Bi-Annual exceptions added.
  • Released players/Bought Out players STILL count against a teams cap figure for their original contract figure. Example: Chris Webber's 20+ million dollar salary figure STAYS on the Sixers cap figure until his contract runs out, even though he was bought out by the Sixers. The Sixers Ownership is only forced to pay him the bought out figure, but, his "original contract" must stay on the salary cap books as if he was never released.
